One of the key foundations of good martial arts training is known as ‘Kung’ in Chinese arts.
This simply means work and refers to the work done in a martial arts system to effectively build the correct kind of strength and endurance.
Thirteen Dynamics uses a variety of methods to achieve high levels of strength, power and endurance. Even though we train to use efficient technique, this physical conditioning can play a powerful role in multiple attack scenarios or if the opponent is much larger.
Art 1: Callisthenics – body weight drills for strength, flexibility and endurance
Art 2: Kettlebell/stone lock – Chinese arts traditionally used these implements to develop functional strength and ballistic power through the whole body
Art 3: High Intensity interval training – ancient exercises designed to target and develop ‘central’ cardiovascular fitnes
Art 4: Impact work – pad work, heavy bag work and other impact based exercises to develop condition of the hands, feet, writs and ankles whilst building fitness and striking power.
Art 5: Special strength training – using three to five pound hand weights performing high speed drills for development of tendon power, speed endurance and power mechanics
Artd 6: Evasion training – using spears or poles to develop evasion, jumping and ducking skills while simultaneously building up cardiovascular fitness.
