Our origins

Thirteen Dynamics Tai Chi school was started by Neil Rosiak in 1994 under the name Renaissance Tai Chi Chuan. At 18 years of age Neil won the British Tai Chi pushing hands competition after having training with Dan Docherty, 1980 south East Asian martial arts champion since 1988. He was selected to compete for the British Team at the Chung Hwa cup in Taiwan and as a method of funding the trip mr Docherty suggested that he should begin teaching. This was the start of the 13 dynamics school.
Neil has competed in various aspects of Tai Chi, winning many championships including the heavyweight titles at the European championships. He was also one of the first fighters to compete in professional mma, representing Tai Chi fighting for the heavyweight titles in 1997. He holds a Masters degree in Sport science (Strength and Conditioning).

Neil’s teacher, Dan Docherty, learned tai chi in Hong Kong while serving as a police inspector in the vice squad. He learned from the famed fighting tai chi master Cheng Tin Hung, who trained ordinary people as well as full contact fighters on his rooftop gym. His gym had the reputation of being one of the toughest in Hong Kong and produced very successful fighters as well as training regular people in all aspects of tai chi chuan.

Our Students

Over the years we have helped train hundreds of students in the art of tai chi chuan including those interested mainly in improving their health, others who want to learn highly practical self defence skills, elite military operators and competition fighters. Many students have gone on to win international and world titles in various martial arts competitions including Chinese Kickboxing (San Da – kickboxing with throws).

Tai Chi is incredibly broad and deep and can benefit a wide variety of people from the currently sedentary and unfit to the highly active, competitive and sporty types. It’s scope for personal growth is vast across combat, fitness and health aspects.
