Wutan Tai Chi has a highly developed system of unnarmed self defence, known as San Shou. The idea is to develop intelligent responses to common combat problems and to train them till they are completely instinctual. Ultimately a state of spontaneous response is achieved.

The process starts slowly snd carefully, learning the core fighting methods. How to evade, neutralise and divert oncoming attacks from all directions using skillful action. Training how to immediately counter attacking using the strongest techniques and whole body power to the weakest points on the opponent.

As you improve you can add more techniques and speed the drills up. Ultimately you reach a point where you can comfortably withstand attacks from hands and feet whilst staying calm and above all safe. There are striking and defensive movements using the entire body as a weapon. There are also a lot of throwing, locking, breaking and other grappling techniques.

The training is strengthened by applying subtle strategy and tactics so that we can use minimal force to secure the victory or escape. Highly suitable for smaller and weaker people and women, as well as the athletic among us.
