Neigong translates to internal work and builds the powerful biomechanics and tendinous strength that advanced practitioner can demonstrate.
There are 24 exercises, split into two sets of 12, known as the Yin and Yang sets. Each set is designed to be practiced by committed practitioners on alternating days.
The target and develop the physical structure of the body, such as the muscles, bones and connective tissues. They also specifically work to developed the functioning of the internal organs, particularly the lungs, the heart, the kidneys and the liver.
Whilst working on the strength and power of the physical body and organs, the practitioner is refining the expression of whole body power, known as Jin, so that all of the body’s muscles work together becoming one muscle. This means that when we need to produce whipping, crushing, driving, chapping or any other type of coordinated power, our body brings all the muscles, tendons, fascia and so on into a perfect expression of power.
Joints loosen, balance improves, stamina increases and determination and toughness increase.
The exercises are done in a soft, meditative manner, helping to improve all around awareness and mental calm. The final exercises are breath meditation exercises, which are a form of Taoist alchemy designed to refine one’s state of consciousness (Shen) through the use of calm, focus and alignment.
